Difficulty in accessing site

posted 27/01/2004 - 12:50 by Josephine Quint...
I have heard from a number of people that they are having difficulty in logging on to the forum.
I have only just managed to access but it appears that no replies have been received yet. Is this the correct status of the consultation or not?

These are the points raised in the first week of the forum:

- Results can be disappointing, and disruption of the oocyte structure “should be kept to a minimum in clinical cases” until experiment shows clear safety limits.

If you have views on these or any other issues relating to New Fertility Treatments please post your message in this forum.
We look forward to reading your contributions.

Many thanks

These are some of the points raised in the second week of the forum:

"Why are Aids-resistant genes so important to the World Community and not just to the Aids Community?"

"Going through a donor cycle puts the woman under a lot of stress and considering that she has a higher susceptibility to illness because of her HIV there is not a high incentive to go through a cycle. The payment of donors should be a possibility, though other options should first be explored."

"What would have happened in Germany had Hitler been able to do this?"

"The only justifiable reason for creating any embryo is to bring it to full term, and cherish it."

The consultation is now in it's third week and there is an excellent range of messages from all sides of the discussion.

To everyone who has posted so far thank you again and keep on posting!

I was born illegitimately in the post WW2 baby boom and soon adopted by a childless couple in their forties. This was a very happy arrangement for all concerned. I am glad that abortion was not then readily available, as were my legal parents.
Thirty years later I married and my dear wife and I failed to have any children. Therefore we are aware of the frustration, sadness, envy and occasional misunderstanding this can generate. At that time my wife was a health professional and conversant with infertility treatments. We were doubtful of the morality of some of these and regard AI and the like as little better than clinical adultery. We are totally opposed to any technique that fertilises many ova to produce embryos that will later be killed.
We believe life is the gift of God and he has made up to us what we missed in not having children.
